Seven Hills 10K
The Seven Hills 10K is the race Lisbon runners argue about: is it the climb up the Avenida da Liberdade or the drop from Estrela that hurts more? You’ll have an opinion by the finish.
It starts on Praça do Comércio at nine, climbs gently through the Baixa to Rossio and then for two kilometres up the Avenida to Marquês de Pombal, the highest point of the course. From there it rolls west to Estrela, plunges to the river at Santos and runs flat along the Tagus, out to Santa Apolónia and back to the square.
Pacing it
Most of the climbing is done by kilometre four, and almost all of the last four kilometres are flat. Runners who hold back on the Avenida usually finish faster: save something for the river.
Who it’s for
Anyone who can run ten kilometres in an hour and a half. There are pacers for 45, 50, 55 and 60 minutes, with flags on their backs.
